Harbor Islands Park Pavilion

Kennedy Greenway, Boston

There are three elements to this architectural composition for the Harbor Islands National Park pavilion on the Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston: the hovering roof; the transparent pavilion; and the opaque service module. The roof is a wave pattern of folded-plate steel structure with photovoltaic panels on the south-facing facets. The roof protects the pavilion below from rain, snow, and solar gain. The pavilion is an open framework of glue-laminated wood beams with exterior-facing digital information panels and a café/bookstore inside. The roof extends past the pavilion to create protected exterior spaces to welcome the public to the park.
